A contemporary of King Edward d'Angleterre (Edward Ier) (Plantagenêt, b. 17 czerwiec 1239 d. 7 lipiec 1307), he could be the son of either Henry de Strode and Matilda or Nicholas de Strode. Assuming that Beatrix Button and Beatrix de Bytton are the same, there are conflicting parentage accounts for the same Hugh, according to Stirnet. Either way, he is a descendant of Warinus de la Strode, a Breton noble who came to England in William the Conqueror's Norman army. Warinus would be six generations back through Henry or nine through Nicholas.
