Owen (Owney) John Burke (1915-1984) Owen was living at the house at that time. Owen was working for a cab company. Junction Cab Company the office was at the corner of Cumminipaw Avenue and Grand Street. Owen later worked at a trucking company after the war, he had two purple hearts. He was in General Mark Clark's division in Italy. I remember seeing a letter that he wrote my father during the war. He also fought in Africa. He had many medals and two purple hearts, he was wounded badly, he was very soft spoken. Owen worked for Manning and Maxwell in the Lafayette section of Jersey City. He may have worked at Continental Can also before the war. He never married. He worked at Hall's Trucking in Jersey City for a while. Owen and my father owned a 1939 Buick that they bought together and later a 1949 Pontiac they also owned together. My father and William (Bill) Burke liked each other but would have periods that they wouldn't talk. William helped support the family. John Joseph couldn't hold down a job. William left school to work. They had a falling out, and later, they didn't talk. Margaret and my father were the closest. My dad cried uncontrollably, I never saw him do that before. The last 10 years of his life he spoke more about the family. He expressed his love for her. She was kind of heavy, and worked for the IRS for maybe 30 years. She was a secretary in the collections division of Jersey City. She went with Tom Morgan many years before they married. He had been married before, I think. This was my impression, no one ever told me. I'm not sure he ever divorced his wife, and that's why they couldn't marry. Margaret was Catholic and her husband was not, so that was a problem. After my John Joseph died Josephine lived with Owen and Margaret on Harmon Street. Josephine died around 1964 or 1965, when my second son was an infant.
